Atonement Lutheran School
History

“Home of the Eagles”

“A school that makes a difference...”
OUR PROUD HISTORY
The Lutheran Church of the Atonement established the school in September 1956 to provide a high quality Christian-based education for the children of its members. Initially, the school program encompassed Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. Subsequent grade levels through Eighth Grade were added over the following four years. A Pre-Kindergarten program was established in 1975. To meet the growing needs of our school families, a Child Care Center was added and has developed to provide an all-day program for the children, including a summer program.

In the years following, the purpose of the school has remained the same, but its role has been expanded as an outreach mission offering the same opportunity to all children of the community. Today’s enrollment is reflective of our demographic area with approximately one-half of students from our congregation and other students attending various Christian denominations throughout North County.

Our school program has continued to grow and develop and maintained its excellence in providing the best Christian education possible for the children including a full-time Special Educaton teacher, Speech and Language services, and a full-time school nurse.

The continued support and commitment from the congregation in supporting the ministry of Christian education is demonstrated through its contributions annually toward the school’s operating expenses. This support is even more evident with the recent completion of a three-phase major building program at a cost of over $4 million dollars! The project’s first phase was completed in 1996 with construction of a new gymnasium, child care center, and youth ministry center. The second phase completed in 2003 included a new classroom wing and complete renovation of existing classrooms and cafeteria. The third phase completed in December of 2008 provided for a new media center, administrative center for church/school offices, school nurse and health rooms, and a large multi-purpose room. Also incorporated in the project were renovated areas for a science lab, music room, art/activity room, and fellowship foyer.
